Few things in life are more rewarding and more challenging than relationships. It is essential to recognize that each individual comes to the table with a unique personality, background, beliefs and values. If these are not understood or examined, conflict is inevitable, and communication can break down quickly. Our couples and marriage therapists teach practical conflict resolution skills to maintain healthy relationships.
How does it work?
Our therapists incorporate various approaches into couples counselling, often meeting one-on-one with individuals to address any underlying issues or challenges related to their history in the relationship. Regardless of your circumstances as a couple, our therapists are committed to working with you through various relational issues.
What can I expect?
One of the strategies we use is called Non-Violent Communication (NVC), created by Marshal Rosenberg. NVC teaches couples to identify their needs while developing mutually beneficial strategies that meet both parties' individual needs.
Another strategy taught by our therapists is Imago Dialogue, developed by Dr. Harville Hendrix and his wife, Dr. Helen La Kelley Hunt, a technique used in couples' work for over 25 years. Imago Dialogue is a powerful method of healing hurting relationships and helping couples feel heard and validated through communication techniques.
We follow the recommended fees set forth by the Psychologists' Association of Alberta.
